Failures

So I didn't accomplish my goal of blogging every day. I haven't even been writing once a week. I have been doing a lot of writing for school (and I'll start putting them up as soon as I get back the edited versions). But all this blogging failure led me to think about failures in the kitchen.

My family has stories of food blunders. Sandwiches made with bread a cabbage. Tomato soup with bugs (though my grandmother still swears they were celery seeds - yeah, seeds with wings). Hockey puck hamburgers. Too many burned cookies and fallen cakes to count. Last week I accidentally added twice the amount of liquid to some stuffing I was making. My roommate enjoyed the stuffing mush but I couldn't eat it. I came home from class this week and forgot about my grilled cheese sandwich. As my apartment filled with smoke from the charred cheese rock, I began to wonder how many things I could screw up.

While nobody likes to fail, I know I would be where I'm at today without them: failed relationships, homework assignments, career plans, etc. It could be that I'm growing with age or I'm sleep deprived and especially introspective, but I've stopped looking at all the things I've failed as negative points. I've learned, I've grown and I've become one hell of a fantastic woman (just ask my mom and Jeni and, of course, Ili even is she doesn't actually speak).

And just remember whenever you have a kitchen failure, you can always have a peanut butter and banana sandwich. That's what I usually do.
